Pamela Bordes is a name that not many of you must be familiar with. Yet, the legacy of shame that she brought upon herself and her country lives on even after two decades.

Pamela Bordes initial claim to fame was the Miss India Universe title that she won way back in 1982. However, as things would have it, her real claim to fame was her notoriety that made headlines in UK in 1988 and shocked one and all.

The summer of 1988 brought the curtains down on the socialite Pamela Bordes who was exposed as the England’s highest paid escort at allegedly 10000 pounds a night. Her clientele included the who’s who of UK including ministers, foreign dignitaries, mobsters, arm dealers and several high profile members of the Parliament in UK. Back then, she was famously pictured in a limousine with a UK minister, Colin Moynihan. She was even linked to MPs David Shaw and Henry Bellingham, besides the Sunday Times editor Andrew Neil.

What exactly propelled her to choose prostitution as a career is still unknown. However, a quick look at her life post her Miss India days clearly reveals her appetite for money and fame that was hard to come by otherwise. Back then, Miss India was not as big as it is today. There were no offers and you were left to fend for yourself. Seeking to make a name for herself, Pamela moved to England after winning the pageant where she married a Frenchman. That’s where the title Bordes comes from.

Pamela’s marriage was short lived and after that, she began making regular appearances at exclusive nightclubs frequented by the high profile socialites. This is where her new career began to take shape which climaxed in the form of UK’s biggest sex scandal till date.

After the expose, Pamela’ association with one of her high profile clients, a Libyan official named Ahmed Gadaff Al Daim, prompted security issues across UK. As a result, Pamela was extradited to India.
Fearing backlash at the hands of her own people and the media, she went back to her maiden surname Singh and rechristened herself as Pamela Singh. Pamela started a new career as a photojournalist and worked successfully for quite a few years.

So where is Pamela now and what is she doing now?

Well, she was last spotted in Goa in 2010 where she had rented a two bedroom apartment in the quite secluded neighbourhood of a fishing village. She is said to be surviving on her savings from her photojournalist days. She doesn’t have many friends and none expect a few of her friends know about her past as most of her new friends are half her age who were probably not even born when Pamela won the Miss India title.

Not to tread the same path again, Pamela now finds solace in her quite life and amuses herself by making new friends on social networking sites.
